Urban Analysis and Research

H&J are innovative leaders in the field of urban analysis and urban research. Our services include innovative approaches to both qualitative analysis and spatial perception analysis. H&J are specialists in using qualitative research and social archiving methods to survey a neighborhood prior to development.  The mixed research methods employed in this survey is useful in determining baseline social, physical, economic, and other conditions present in a community prior to redevelopment. This research is highly useful in promoting both socially and environmentally sustainable developments while maximizing economic benefits. In addition, H&J are pioneers in determining the ecological labels associated with locations throughout a community as well as determining the collective spatial perception of communities.  This analysis is particularly useful for communities that are considering neighborhood renewal projects as well as economic development projects.

Neighborhood Impact Statements

H&J pioneered the neighborhood impact assessment, a form of analysis that is used to determine the potential negative impacts of a proposed development.  NIA analysis can be performed on any size development from 1 building to large commercial or residential developments and focuses on determining potential crime, traffic, social, economic, or environmental problems before development begins.

Re-Development Assistance

Essential to the successful re-development of blighted neighborhoods is the ability to ensure safety and feelings of safety within a community.
